Australia Day is a community celebration!

26 January 2020 is a day for acknowledging community and national spirit in NSW, where the nation comes together to celebrate what’s great about Australia.

The Kempsey Shire’s Australia Day Ambassador has been announced, with Aiden Tolman to take part in local celebrations for 2020.

Aiden was born and raised in the Macleay, having played junior football locally before embarking on his professional league career. He is a fantastic role model on and off the field, particularly for young local sporting fans.

He will join Kempsey Shire Mayor, Liz Campbell, in presenting the 2020 Australia Day Awards on January 26 from 11:30am at the Slim Dusty Centre in South Kempsey.

The event will include a Welcome to Country, a Citizenship ceremony for 23 Macleay Valley residents and the announcement of the winners of Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

On Sunday 26 January Kempsey Shire Council will host the Australia Day Awards and family fun day at the Slim Dusty Centre, 490 Macleay Valley Way, South Kempsey.

9:30am-11:30am: Official Australia Day Awards ceremony

  • Address by Australia Day Ambassador Aiden Tolman
  • Citizenship ceremony
  • Australia Day Awards

11:30-1:30pm: Free family fun day

  • Australiana games including egg & spoon races, whip cracking and thong throwing competitions
  • BBQ and refreshments
  • Face painting, jumping castle and inflatable obstacle course
  • Aiden Tolman meet & greet
  • Live music

The Crescent Head Lions Club will host its traditional barbecue breakfast for a gold coin donation at the Crescent Head rotunda from 7:00am on Sunday, 26 January. The winners of the Lions Club’s Crescent Head Citizen of the Year, Young Achiever, and Sportsperson of the Year Awards will also be announced.

The South West Rocks Lions Club will host a free sausage sizzle from 7:30am at the Horseshoe Bay Reserve, Livingstone Street. The event will include the presentation of the Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award.
