Willawarrin Recovery Assistance Point

  • The Recovery Assistance Point has officially closed as of Thursday 19 December
  • Residents can seek bushfire recovery information at Council’s Customer Service Centre, 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey
  • Assistance will also be available at Willawarrin Hall on Wednesday morning 29 January 2020 from 9am

Bushfire Customer Care Service

NSW Government is delivering bushfire recovery assistance to help people and businesses impacted by bushfires. The Service NSW bushfire customer care service has specialists to help guide you every step of the way.

People impacted by bushfires are encouraged to call Service NSW on 137 788, see a Service NSW team member in a Disaster Recovery Centre, visit a Service NSW Centre or Mobile Service Centre, or go to www.service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/bushfire-customer-care-service  for assistance.

Types of assistance we can help with include:

  • Accommodation advice
  • Relevant charitable services
  • Mental health and wellbeing services
  • Support for businesses
  • Clean-up services
  • Financial assistance
  • Grants and rebates
  • Insurance and legal support
  • Replacing lost ID
  • Volunteer RFS and SES payments.

2020 support meetings

Kempsey Shire Council will be hosting a number of support meetings early 2020. Details to be posted on our Facebook page & website. Flyers will also be distributed to local businesses.

Assistance with bushfire waste
(as at 29 November 2019)

Waste type: Residential buildings & immediately adjacent out buildings including concrete slabs & dangerous debris
Uninsured properties: applies to properties listed on the Rural Fire Service (RFS) property damage or destroyed list only Waive State Government Waste Levy. Clean up costs covered (including asbestos) Not applicable as uninsured properties All fees and charges waived as NSW Government will provide financial assistance to Council for this waste.
Insured properties: applies to properties listed on the RFS property damage or destroyed list only Waive State Government Waste Levy Clean up costs funded by insurer (including asbestos)
Note: The NSW Government will provide financial assistance to ensure that extraordinary clean-up costs do not result in a reduction of the amount for rebuild. This is arranged through the insurer.
Council fees & charges apply. However, the NSW Waste Levy of $82.70 per tonne will be removed from Council’s published fees and charges for waste to landfill.

Note: Disposal of single trailer loads of non-asbestos contaminated bushfire damaged materials will be accepted free of charge at Council’s Waste Management Centre on Crescent Head Road, subject to providing proof of address within the bushfire impacted zones and completion of a registration form.
Waste type: All other bushfire related mixed waste

Clean-up assistance

If your property is insured, please contact your insurer about clean-up.

If you are uninsured and your home has been damaged or destroyed, Public Works Advisory will arrange for the clean-up of your residence and immediately adjacent outbuildings, including the removal of concrete slabs.

If you are uninsured, please contact Public Works Advisory on 1800 885 539 to discuss the clean-up of your property.
